WWE’s AJ Styles has a heartwarming reaction to being surprised with his dream gift.

AJ Styles recently retired from in-ring competition and has been receiving tributes from fans and wrestling personalities alike. WWE’s official merchandise partner, Fanatics, took it up a notch and surprised the Phenomenal One with his dream gift.

Speaking to them backstage, AJ Styles had said that if he could get an autograph from any superstar in any field, it would be from basketball legend Spud Webb. Known for being only around 5’6 as opposed to the average NBA player height of 6’6, Webb famously won the 1986 Slam Dunk contest. He became the shortest person ever to achieve it.

“If I could get an autograph by any superstar ever in anything? I’m telling you, man, Spud Webb. Number four, Atlanta Hawks 1986,” AJ Styles revealed. “This guy comes out of nowhere and wins the dunk contest. Oh, yeah, by the way, he’s only like 5’6. It was pretty freaking awesome.”

Three weeks later, Fanatics surprised AJ Styles with an autographed photo of the NBA legend, and the Phenomenal One was thrilled to receive it.

“Oh, shoot! Spud Webb, baby! Got to be. Oh my God! That is awesome,” AJ Styles said. When I played basketball in elementary school, I was number four, Spud Webb, because of this guy. So this is freaking awesome. Amazing, thank you guys. I freaking love it!”

Fanatics has recently been making headlines for the wrong reasons, including not being prepared for Super Bowl merchandise demand and the Boston Red Sox home jersey errors.

AJ Styles set the record straight on his decision to retire

After appearing alongside Luke Gallows on the AJ Styles tribute episode of RAW this week, former WWE Tag Team Champion Karl Anderson revealed that the Phenomenal One retired due to neck issues.

However, AJ Styles set the record straight on his retirement while speaking to Anderson, Gallows, and Frankie Kazarian on the Talk N Shop podcast. He reiterated that he’s retired for good and that he made the decision on his own because he felt it was time for him to step away. He also debunked the rumors that WWE announced his 2026 Hall of Fame induction only to prevent him from signing with AEW.

“Let me give you something to talk about. So, everybody wants to say, ‘Oh, WWE put him in the Hall of Fame so they couldn’t go to AEW.’ Guys, I’m retired from wrestling,” AJ Styles reaffirmed. “Like, that’s all this is. I make my own choices. I was ready.”

“Guys, I’m retired from wrestling in the ring. That’s all this is. I make my own choices, I make my own decisions. I was ready. There’s a time—I think Nattie put in her book where she talks about staying at the table too long. Like, you’ve got to beat the house. I beat the house, man, because I was on the verge of staying at the table too long,” AJ Styles said.
