Is Swerve Strickland heading into AEW Forbidden Door with a legitimate injury?

After picking up a very important victory at All In: Texas with Will Ospreay over the Young Bucks, Swerve Strickland has only competed in one match since that pay-per-view. This saw Strickland pick up a win over Hechicero via disqualification on the July 23 episode of Dynamite.

A recent interview with Renee Paquette on Dynamite revealed that Strickland is dealing with a knee injury going into Forbidden Door. But is this a storyline or something legitimate?

According to Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select), not only is Strickland’s injury legit, it’s something he’s been dealing with for quite some time.

Sapp reports that Swerve is working with a torn meniscus, but has been doing so since he was a member of the WWE roster in 2019.

Strickland was initially set to take time off from AEW following All In, but that didn’t happen. He’s currently working with the medical staff of the Jacksonville Jaguars to recover from the injury. However, there’s a chance he could end up requiring surgery.

With this news out there, it seems very unlikely that Strickland will leave Forbidden Door with the Unified Championship.

Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
