Chris Bey believes Leon Slater represents both the present and future of TNA Wrestling.

The former X Division Champion recently spoke on Muscle Man Malcolm, praising Slater and highlighting his rapid rise. “He’s amazing. If you look back, there was a six-man tag where me, him, and Ace teamed against The Rascalz. I wore a durag out to the ring because I wanted to honor Leon Slater and put the kid over. I’ve always thought he was great and he’s so respectful. People talk about that, that’s a real thing.”

“I remember his first couple loops, he’d be hanging back in the locker room cleaning stuff up and making sure that it was clean. I’m looking at him like, ‘Bro, you don’t have to do that.’ But the fact that he took the initiative and he wanted to do it, I was like, man this kid’s going to go far. To see what he’s becoming and the way he’s transformed his body he’s the X-Division champion now.”

“He embodies what the X-Division is all about. If anyone would have that championship right now, it should be him, he’s the best X-Division guy that we have. He represents the current generation and the future generation. The Swanton 450 is like the scariest movie I’ve ever seen, a lot of us have ever seen. He’s a special guy and he’s going to carry this company into the future.” [H/T: Fightful]

Slater made history at TNA Slammiversary by defeating Moose to become the youngest X Division Champion. After winning the title, he defended it in a triple-threat match against Cedric Alexander and Jason Hotch on TNA Impact, pinning Hotch to retain.

Since Alexander wasn’t pinned, tensions rose between the two, leading to the announcement that Slater will defend his title against Alexander at TNA Emergence.
