WWE’s Stance on Roman Reigns vs. Penta Rematch Changes — Report

Roman Reigns and Penta could be headed for another showdown following their World Heavyweight Championship match on WWE RAW.

Reigns defended the World Heavyweight Championship against Penta on the September 14 episode of WWE RAW in Mexico City. Penta earned the opportunity after winning a tournament featuring several luchadores, including his brother Rey Fenix.

The match saw Reigns retain the World Heavyweight Championship after hitting Penta with a Superman Punch and Spear combination. Despite coming up short, Penta made it clear that he wanted another opportunity against the champion.

Roman Reigns vs. Penta reportedly received praise backstage. WWE officials were said to be extremely pleased with the challenger’s performance in particular. Penta’s showing against Reigns appears to have strengthened his standing within the company and could lead to further opportunities for the RAW star.

Roman Reigns vs. Penta Rematch Reportedly Gains Support Within WWE

According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, many people within WWE creative initially viewed Roman Reigns vs. Penta as a “one-and-done match.” However, that position may have changed.

Several people in creative now reportedly believe a rematch between Reigns and Penta makes sense from both a business and creative standpoint.

For now, Reigns has another challenger waiting. LA Knight confronted the OTC following his victory over Penta, setting up a World Heavyweight Championship match at October’s Money in the Bank Premium Live Event.

Speaking of which, Penta could potentially earn another opportunity at a world title. The former Intercontinental Champion punched his way into the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match after winning a triple threat qualifying match on RAW earlier this week.
