WWE Star Emerges as Heavy Favorite To Win Money in the Bank — Report
Penta could be on the verge of securing another major opportunity in WWE. The former Intercontinental Champion is reportedly now viewed as a heavy favorite to win the Men’s Money in the Bank Ladder Match.
Penta earned his place in the match after winning a triple threat qualifying bout on RAW earlier this week. He will now compete for the Money in the Bank briefcase at the October 10 Premium Live Event in New Orleans.
The development comes shortly after Penta challenged Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship on the September 14 episode of RAW in Mexico City. Reigns ultimately retained the title, but Penta reportedly made a strong impression backstage with his performance.
Penta reportedly received major backstage praise following the match. A report from Lucha Libre Online claimed WWE executives were extremely pleased with his performance, particularly his ability to work with Reigns in front of a heavily pro-Penta crowd.
Penta’s WWE Money In The Bank Plans Reportedly Changed After Roman Reigns Match
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, Penta is now viewed by several people within WWE creative as a “heavy favorite” to win Money in the Bank.
This reportedly was not the plan as of SummerSlam. However, the reaction to Penta’s match with Reigns in Mexico City may have changed WWE’s thinking, with discussion of a potential rematch between the two stars also emerging.
Several people within WWE reportedly believe Penta re-established himself as a legitimate main event performer following his match with Reigns. The company reportedly believes he deserves to remain near the top of the card.
Another report noted that WWE has not closed the door on revisiting Reigns vs. Penta despite not having an immediate rematch planned. The matchup could potentially be revisited at a later date.
Penta has already made his desire for another world title opportunity clear. Following his loss to Reigns, he called for a rematch and promised that he would eventually become World Heavyweight Champion.
For now, Penta will have another path toward a world title through the Money in the Bank Ladder Match. A victory would give him the opportunity to challenge for a world championship at a time of his choosing.
Reigns, meanwhile, will also compete at Money in the Bank. The World Heavyweight Champion is set to defend his title against LA Knight at the October 10 event in New Orleans.
