UFC Legend Tells John Cena ‘I Despise You’ on Social Media
John Cena has once again found himself on the receiving end of an unexpected response to one of his inspirational posts on social media.
The WWE legend frequently uses X to share motivational messages, thoughts on personal growth, and words of encouragement with his followers. His latest post, however, caught the attention of former UFC star Chael Sonnen.
Cena recently wrote, “Strive for a relationship environment that allows disagreement without fear.”
Chael Sonnen Takes Aim At John Cena
Sonnen responded to Cena with three blunt words: “I despise you.”
The exchange appears to continue Sonnen’s long-running habit of taking shots at Cena online. The former UFC fighter previously responded to one of Cena’s motivational posts by mocking the WWE star, writing, “Easy for somebody nobody takes seriously to say.”
Sonnen’s latest response also drew a reaction from WWE producer and former star Shane “Hurricane” Helms, who replied with three laughing emojis.
Sonnen then responded to Helms with a reference to The Hurricane’s famous catchphrase, writing, “WHATS UP WITH THAT!”
While Sonnen’s comments could simply be part of his trademark trolling persona, he has previously made his opinions on Cena known. Sonnen is also well known for embracing the “heel” persona and provoking reactions, something he has carried over from his appreciation of professional wrestling.
Cena, meanwhile, has continued using X as a platform for sharing inspirational messages. The former WWE Champion retired from in-ring competition at the end of 2025 after an acclaimed career with the company.
