WWE Nixed Major Celebrity Plan for Sunday Night’s Main Event After Fan Backlash — Report

WWE reportedly had plans to feature a major celebrity appearance. This was for the upcoming Sunday Night’s Main Event before ultimately scrapping the idea.
According to WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select, one of the original ideas for WWE Sunday Night’s Main Event was to feature a legitimate Lil Yachty concert. This was set to be one of the show’s major drawing points.
The idea would have made particular sense given Yachty’s connection to the Atlanta area. He was born in Mableton, Georgia, a suburb located just outside Atlanta, and began his music career as part of the city’s influential hip-hop scene.
However, the plan was eventually nixed following feedback surrounding the celebrity segments featured during the previous Saturday Night’s Main Event.
The upcoming Sunday Night’s Main Event will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, on September 6.
Yachty has appeared several times on WWE programming this year. He was most recently featured at SummerSlam Sunday, where he went through a table during Trick Williams’ United States Championship defense against Baron Corbin. Corbin went on to defeat Williams and capture the title.
Yachty previously aligned himself with Williams earlier this year. He accompanied Williams for his United States Championship match against Sami Zayn at WrestleMania 42 Night 2.
The rapper also presented Williams with a custom United States Championship during the July 10 episode of SmackDown.
While WWE ultimately decided against featuring a full Yachty concert at Sunday Night’s Main Event, it remains to be seen whether the rapper will make another appearance on WWE programming down the line.
