Tony Khan Reveals the Only Time He Questioned Darby Allin’s Risky Decisions
Tony Khan recently discussed Darby Allin‘s willingness to take dangerous risks in professional wrestling.
Speaking with ESPN’s Andreas Hale, All Elite Wrestling President and CEO Tony Khan explained that he generally gives wrestlers the freedom to make their own decisions outside the ring because professional wrestling runs year-round without an offseason.
“I do believe in letting the wrestlers live their lives because wrestling is the only sport that goes 52 weeks a year with no offseason,” Khan said.
He noted that most talent usually want time away to relax with family rather than pursue activities that increase the risk of injury. However, Khan said he trusts Darby Allin because the AEW World Champion carefully thinks through the dangers involved and understands the risks he takes.
“If a wrestler comes to me and they want to do something outside of the ring, usually it’s trying to slow down and spend time with their family … not necessarily something that brings the element of more physical danger into their lives. But I trust Darby because his risks are calculated and he respects danger.”

Khan admitted there was one exception involving Sting, when Allin crashed through glass during a stunt that made him question whether the risk had gone too far.
“Except that time with Sting when he went through the glass. That’s the only time I questioned if he respected the risk he was taking.”
He also revealed that he has rejected several of Allin’s ideas over the years, estimating he has told him “no” around nine or 10 times. One rejected idea came during the COVID-19 pandemic when Allin wanted Sammy Guevara to hit him with a car as part of a storyline. Khan said the roster was already very limited at the time, with only about a dozen wrestlers available, so he could not risk Allin suffering a serious injury.
“I couldn’t afford to have him get hurt at that time,” Khan said.
