Rob Van Dam Is Open To Putting His Career On The Line Against WWE’s Gunther
Rob Van Dam is willing to put his career on the line against Gunther, but there’s a catch.
During a recent episode of the 1 Of A Kind podcast, WWE Hall of Famer RVD was asked whether he would be open to facing the former multi-time World Heavyweight Champion in singles action.
“Yes, and I think that would be a great opportunity if I had the invite, you know?,” he said. “Sounds like a pretty damn good payday and, of course, after the match, WWE would be like, ‘Damn! RVD really looks so f***ing good, like, we got to come up with some other plans for him now,’ and then they would want to throw all kinds of money my way.”
Rob Van Dam doesn’t expect a potential matchup against Gunther to be anything less than physical, comparing The Ring General’s chops to those of Bob Holly.
“I think that Gunther would bring a stiffness out of me just from what I’ve seen like with his chops and stuff like that maybe in a way that like Bob Holly did,” RVD said.
Rob Van Dam on potentially retiring against Gunther
When asked if he would put his career on the line against Gunther, Rob Van Dam admitted the financial compensation would have to justify stepping away from active in-ring competition.
“Oh, man, it would have to be a really big payday, real big. If it was big enough, I’d be like, ‘All right, f*** my career, I’ll pick up another hobby.
“It might not be giving up that much, anyway. Like who knows what I got ahead of me? But I haven’t had my last match and ‘the unknown’ always has value when you’re optimistic.” [H/T Dominic DeAngelo via RVDTV.com]
Gunther has built a reputation as a career killer over the past year, sending the likes of Bill Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles into retirement.
The Ring General is set to face Seth Rollins in singles action at WWE WrestleMania 42 next weekend.
