A new report sheds light on how WWE is taking a different approach on the road to WrestleMania this year.

Last night on SmackDown, the road to WrestleMania 42 was shaken up in a big way when Drew McIntyre defeated Cody Rhodes for the WWE Championship in a Three Stages of Hell match.

Following the match, it was revealed that both Rhodes and McIntyre pitched the idea of the title change to management again after failing to convince them at Wrestlepalooza. And this time, they went along with it.

We now have a new report that sheds some light on WWE’s thought process heading into WrestleMania 42.

According to BodySlam+, despite pitching the idea for the title change, WWE didn’t inform Rhodes or McIntyre of their decision until hours before the match.

WWE’s mindset is to present a different approach to WrestleMania this year. And the company believes that McIntyre winning the championship will open up additional unexpected stories over the next few months.

With a mini tournament of sorts set up to determine McIntyre’s first title defense at the Royal Rumble, Rhodes is immediately on the outside looking in with the WWE title picture.

Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
