Drew McIntyre Says He’s Working Hurt, Talks WWE’s Stance On Safety

At WWE Backlash: St. Louis, Drew McIntyre suffered an injury scare when he was hit with South of Heaven by Damian Priest and landed on the concrete floor.

Speaking to the Orlando Sentinel, McIntyre discussed his injury and shared that he’s still not 100% after the match earlier this month. He said,

“I can’t turn my head all the way left yet… Working hurt is just what happens if you’re an athlete, especially as the years go by. If you’re injured, it is something to take care of.

“Maybe back in the day, we would have taped it up and gone with it. In the past, I have worked with muscle tears and breaks, which isn’t the most sensible thing, but the way we operate now, you want to last for the long run.”

The WWE Backlash: St. Louis match saw McIntyre compete for the U.S. Title, the only championship the Scottish star needs for the WWE Grand Slam.

The match also included Priest and LA Knight but it was Jacob Fatu who retained the gold, thanks to the interference from the debuting JC Mateo.
