Demolition shares words of wisdom for young talent on maintaining family relationships while on the road.

Former tag team champions Demolition were recently announced as the newest inductees into the WWE Hall of Fame. The announcement was made by none other than The Undertaker, who surprised Ax and Smash during a Zoom call.

Appearing on The Edlow Podcast with Josh Edlow and D-Von Dudley, Demolition was asked to share advice for young wrestlers on how to maintain strong family bonds while traveling extensively for work.

“Well, for me — and I’m sure it’s the same situation for all three of us — I had a very, very strong independent wife. Still do, luckily. I would turn my character off once I got off the road. The purpose of being on the road is to make money, so when you come home, you can look around and say, ‘That’s what I’m working for,’” said Ax (Bill Eadie).

“My wife made major decisions. I know Barry’s did too — buying houses, selling houses. I didn’t have to worry about that stuff. So, I think if I were giving advice to someone young: cherish the time you’re home, enjoy it, then go back to work. My dad was a riverboat pilot, on the river from Pittsburgh to New Orleans — 28 days round trip off, seven days home. I remember that when he was home for seven days, he enjoyed it because he knew he had to go back for 28 more. I learned that time is precious, health is precious, and don’t be afraid to let your wives make some decisions.”

Demolition’s Smash shares similar advice

“Yep. That’s exactly the same with me. I’ve been married over 40 years. My wife still runs my life, and that makes it easier for me. There were two different times I was gone, came home, and didn’t have a home — she had bought a new house somewhere. She ran the household, and what I tried to do was keep her involved in every conversation that was going on. I always told her things; I didn’t keep her in the dark. So it wasn’t like I’d come home and have to hear rumors. She got it straight from me.

“That’s why my marriage has lasted this long. There has to be trust. She ran the house, Bill and I went out and made the money. What kind of saved me was that once I got with Bill, he’d already gone through everything. I could have been swayed to do other things — go out partying every night and all that — but I didn’t. That’s what made us a great partnership. And the wives trusted us.”

Elsewhere on the podcast, Demolition discussed the timeline of their WWE Hall of Fame induction announcement.
