Michael Jordan Apologized To WWE Legend After Disrespectful First Meeting
Michael Jordan once apologized to a WWE legend after disrespecting him during their first meeting.
An old clip of WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry’s interview with VladTV, where he discussed his first meeting with NBA legend Michael Jordan at the 1996 Olympics, has resurfaced on social media. Henry represented Team USA in weight lifting at the event.
He recalled Jordan asking him who he was when they first met. The WWE legend felt that the way Michael Jordan asked the question was disrespectful and confronted him on the spot. The NBA legend apologized to him and even invited Mark Henry to his birthday party.
“I got to meet the great Michael Jordan,” the WWE legend began. (On the meeting not going well) Not at first. The way the story goes is Michael asked, ‘Who are you?’ Because I didn’t fit in. I was in an environment where it was all basketball players, and he was like, ‘Who is this big guy?’ I understand that.
“But my mother used to say, ‘Be careful what you say, but even be more careful of how you say it.’ And the way he said it to me was very disrespectful, I thought, and I checked him about it, and he apologized. Hell, he even invited me to his birthday party at the All-Star game.
“I went to his birthday party and said, ‘Happy birthday and thanks for the invite,’ and had a good time, and took my a** home. (On a Michael Jordan and Mark Henry fist fight) It wouldn’t have been interesting. It would’ve made world news, but it wouldn’t have looked good for me,” Mark Henry said.
Michael Jordan recently landed in some controversy
While the interview is five years old, the clip is likely going viral since Michael Jordan is in the news following his recent appearance at the Daytona 500.
Michael Jordan is the part-owner of the 23XI Racing team that won the 2026 Daytona 500 on Sunday, February 15. He got some attention for his interaction with driver Tyler Reddick’s son in Victory Lane.
However, Reddick himself addressed the backlash over Jordan’s actions and said he doesn’t see the controversy other people are seeing.
