Unplanned AEW Line Left Multiple People Unhappy — Report

It appears a recent line said on AEW Dynamite wasn’t approved ahead of time. Leaving multiple people in the company not happy about it.

Last month, AEW Dynamite took place overseas. During the show, MJF returned to cash in his Casino Gauntlet contract. This allowed him to insert himself in the World Title match at Worlds End. Friedman would cut a promo on his three opponents, and at one point, compared Swerve Strickland to “Diddy.” A nickname for former rapper Sean Combs.

The line in question got a lot of negative reaction online. And now a new report reveals that the line was never planned to be said in the first place.

Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select) has confirmed Wrestling Observer’s report that the “Diddy” line wasn’t known by the other talent ahead of time. Sapp would go on to reveal that there were a number of people in the company unhappy about it after it took place.

While plenty of things about this report make sense, one thing that doesn’t is that the show was pre-taped. If people within the company were unhappy with the line, why not edit it out of the broadcast before it aired on TBS?

This also appears to be the reason for the segment the following week, which many fans complained was out of character when Strickland and Page accidentally got sympathy for MJF heading into Worlds End.

It appears this report has left us with more questions than answers.

Stay tuned to WrestleZone for more information as it becomes available.
