John Cena Compares Rumor About His Retirement Match To ‘Pizzagate’
John Cena says he’s putting the ‘last’ in The Last Time Is Now.
During a recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, Cena talked about his retirement match and said that he “wanted to have my final match, which I’ll get my chunk of time, and then dedicate the rest of the show to the future.” Cena also said that fans would see his final in-ring performance and then they would see “major WWE Superstars facing future stars.”
Fans took this as Cena “confirming” he was opening Saturday Night’s Main Event instead of closing the show. However, Cena didn’t confirm anything. He later said to Kimmel that he likes to go to bed early, but he is probably ending the show. So I’ll probably be last on that,” indicating he will close the show.
The rumor of Cena opening Saturday Night’s Main Event quickly spread throughout the week, but Cena put that to bed on Friday’s episode of the Pat McAfee Show. Cena told McAfee that he’s not sure how the rumor started, but if you listened to his full comments, you would have heard him say that he is going on last.
“That is ‘Pizzagate’ homie,” Cena said with a laugh. “I was on Jimmy Kimmel and I said I was ending the show. I said, ‘I normally go to bed early,’ but I have to stay up late for this one; I guess people didn’t read between the tea leaves. Like, we’re last.
“I don’t know how the rumor started; I think some folks with credibility like to kick a hornet’s nest once in a while to give people chatter. And I understand, we’re in the age of information, so it’s going to keep my attention. ‘You’re not last?’ Sure, that’ll keep my attention for a few hot clicks. I don’t even know how that started. It’s difficult to conceptualize it; I don’t make the menu. If I show up tomorrow and they want me to go on first, well, that’s what I’m going to do. But as of now, we’re on last.”
During the appearance on Kimmel, Cena also said he plans on spending the night with people that he loves. Cena also joked that he hopes to wake up on Sunday with a hangover.
