Shotzi Blackheart Highlights How Matt Cardona Inspired Her Run On The Indies
They might be at odds on screen now, but Shotzi Blackheart wants the kind of independent wrestling career that Matt Cardona has built.
After her WWE contract ended in early May, Shotzi returned to independent wrestling. She recently started a feud with Matt Cardona over the nickname “Indy God” because she began using it too. Even though they’re rivals now, she respects how Cardona has handled his career after WWE.
In an interview with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard, Blackheart was asked about what she’s learned from her interactions with Matt Cardona. Shotzi said she admires how he makes everything he does feel important and how well he promotes himself.
“I love that everything that he does, he makes [it] a big deal. He’s so good at promoting himself, and he’s so good at making money. He is like the ‘Merch God’ for sure. And he is very transparent about how he makes his money and he shares that knowledge with everyone in the indies.”

Shotzi Blackheart wants a ‘Matt Cardona run’ on the independent scene
Shotzi said she was doing something similar with merch before she signed with WWE in 2019. When she returned this year, she saw Cardona’s success and admitted that he is part of the inspiration behind her latest indie run.
“I had every single bit of merch you could ask for. You want Shotzi plates to eat pizza off of? I sold those. Yeah. So, I was kind of doing that before I got signed. And I think that’s what got me signed because I was promoting myself so well, and making that merch money.
“So, yeah, when I came back to the indies, he was a little bit of an inspiration. I just want to kind of be where he is. I look at the indie landscape, and I immediately look at Matt Cardona. And I think, I want to be where he is. That is the career that I want on the indies.”
A few days ago at Maple Leaf Pro’s Resurrection event, Matt Cardona attacked Shotzi during her match with Gisele Shaw. His interference helped Gisele retain her Women’s title. Now, Shotzi and Cardona are set to face off later this week at GCW Boss of All Bosses. Their feud has been building for several weeks. In this time, Shotzi stole Cardona’s “Indy God” title and YouTube show, while Cardona stole her tank and “broke” her arm.
