Report: Another WWE NXT Event Will Run Head To Head With AEW In August

It looks like WWE will continue to run NXT events head-to-head with AEW.

WWE has been “counterprogramming” AEW events by running NXT shows at the same time. The latest instance of this will happen this weekend, when NXT The Great American Bash runs concurrently with AEW All In: Texas. Earlier this week, F4WOnline.com’s Bryan Alvarez shared that WWE has more plans to compete with AEW events, some of which would be announced “fairly soon.”

According to a new report from @WrestleVotes (via WrestleVotes Radio), “soon” will be next month. The outlet is reporting that WWE is planning to hold NXT Heatwave on August 24. WWE has not confirmed the event, date or location. However, Heatwave is rumored to take place at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium in South Carolina.

AEW also has a big event planned for August 24

August 24 happens to be the same day as Forbidden Door. The annual AEW and NJPW crossover show takes place at the O2 Arena in London, England. Heatwave has been on the NXT calendar as an annual event since 2022, but this is the first time it would run up against an AEW event.

AEW star MJF recently commented on WWE’s counterprogramming measures, calling it a good business move. However, he noted that it’s not an “accident” like some might have you believe.

After Forbidden Door, All Out is scheduled for September 20, 2025, in Toronto. AEW has not announced any other PPVs after that. This is a decision that reportedly stemmed from WWE’s counterprogramming measures against AEW’s respective Worlds End 2024 and All In 2025 events. On the WWE side, the company has SummerSlam on August 2 and 3. This will be followed by Clash in Paris on August 31 in France.
