Jeff Jarrett Responds To AEW Grand Slam: Australia Criticism
Jeff Jarrett has responded to the controversy surrounding AEW’s latest Grand Slam event that many feel overshadowed AEW’s Australia debut.
On a recent edition of his “My World” podcast, Jarrett questioned whether anti-AEW tribalism played a role in the show’s criticism. He said,
“Late last night when I logged in, I kind of saw the dominoes, if you will. But man, it made me sit back and think just how—I don’t want to use the word tribalism or everything’s politicized, but it just feels like—it’s the old Jerry Lawler song, ‘Bad news travels like a wildfire, good news travels slow. They all call me wildfire because everybody knows I’m bad news.’”
Issues with the show began early on, with the event being moved from Suncorp Stadium to the much smaller Brisbane Entertainment Centre.
This was reportedly due to low ticket sales, and fans also took issue with what they thought would be a pay-per-view event instead of being a replacement for Collision.
Addressing the matter further, Jarrett noted that “controversy creates cash” which he believes may be why some focused on the show’s issues.
During the event, many fans took issue with AEW potentially using a smaller ring than normal, as well as an injury to Buddy Matthews.
Jarrett concluded by pointing out that “14,000 international fans that had a fantastic time” at Grand Slam: Australia.
