WWE Star Seemingly References CM Punk’s AEW Choking Incident While Saying He’s ‘Softened’

WWE star Grayson Waller thinks CM Punk has gone soft after his recent appearance at the NXT Live Event. During his remarks, Waller made a subtle reference to Punk’s AEW choking incident.
While speaking on Busted Open Radio, the reigning NXT Champion Grayson Waller expressed that he wants to see the old CM Punk back.
Grayson Waller Expected CM Punk To Choke Him
CM Punk recently made an appearance on the NXT Live Event in August. This was at the Virginia State University Multipurpose Center in Petersburg, Virginia. During the show, Punk teamed up with Myles Borne and Tavion Heights against Vanity Project.
Several NXT stars seemed excited to have CM Punk on NXT and took photos with him backstage. However, Grayson Waller has a totally different approach to Punk’s presence.
The Australian star’s attitude toward Punk clearly showed that he is not a fan.
Waller even went as far as to confront Punk backstage. The video was later deleted by WWE for unknown reasons.
During their backstage encounter, Waller thought Punk was going to choke him, given the mean things he said about the Straight Edge star on X.
During the interview, Waller took a subtle dig at Punk’s past and expected that he’d meet with a more volatile CM Punk. He also implied that CM Punk has nothing left to keep him hungry on account of his personality and current footing in his career.
He stated, “Punk is very good, very sharp, and very intelligent, but he’s softened a bit. He’s got a wife, a nice family, a bunch of NXT kids telling him how good he is. He’s the champion, main evented WrestleMania. What makes him hungry now? What makes him fired up and angry?”
He continued, “I want the old CM Punk. I thought he was going to choke me out because I said some mean things on Twitter about him, and he didn’t. I was like, ‘Oh, where did you go, Punk?’ That’s okay, I’ll bring him back. That’s my goal.”
Waller seemingly referenced Punk’s AEW backstage altercation with Jack Perry, where he choked Perry, showing that he was a fan of the old no-nonsense Punk. Furthermore, Grayson Waller said his goal is to bring back the combative version of the Second City Saint.
At this point, CM Punk doesn’t seem to be interested in a rivalry with Grayson Waller, as SmackDown’s packed roster is keeping him busy. And as for Waller, he has yet to find his first challenger for the NXT Championship.
All things considered, WWE posting and deleting their confrontational backstage video is very telling that the seeds for the Punk-Waller feud have been planted. It remains to be seen when the time will be right to pit the duo against each other.
