WWE Had a Specific Reason for Not Airing Worlds Collide Live — Report
WWE’s decision not to air Worlds Collide live reportedly had more behind it than a simple scheduling choice. The WWE-AAA event is taking place in the Chicago area on the same night as AEW All Out. Now, a new report sheds light on why fans were asked to attend in person.
WWE announced during Friday’s SmackDown that Worlds Collide will instead air exclusively on YouTube on September 30 at 7 p.m. ET. The announcement confirmed an earlier Fightful Select report that the event would not be broadcast live.
According to Fightful Select, WWE made the decision in early August with the intention of affecting AEW All Out’s local ticket sales.
The idea was straightforward. If fans wanted to watch Worlds Collide live, they had to be inside Allstate Arena rather than watching it from home.

Fightful Select reported that WWE sources acknowledged AEW ultimately sold more tickets than the company expected. However, WWE was still said to be pleased with Worlds Collide’s own ticket sales.
The two events are being held in the same metropolitan area, with Worlds Collide taking place at Allstate Arena in Rosemont and AEW All Out at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates. That made the ticket market a particularly interesting part of the crossover.
According to the figures in the report, AEW All Out reached a legitimate sellout with 9,338 tickets distributed. Worlds Collide, meanwhile, had moved more than 13,200 tickets, with 529 still available at the time of the report.
The strategy may not have produced the desired effect on AEW’s gate, but WWE’s event still drew strong interest. CM Punk is also part of the Worlds Collide lineup, with his involvement reportedly locked in during the early planning stages rather than being a reaction to AEW.
For fans at home, however, the clash will be delayed. Worlds Collide will stream on YouTube on September 30, several days after the live event.
