Rusev’s WWE Absence Explained After ‘Stormed Off’ Rumors Spread — Report
Rumors about Rusev’s WWE status have caught wildfire in recent weeks. Now, a new report gives more details about the Bulgarian Brute’s absence from TV.
Rusev has not appeared on WWE TV since his last match took place against Je’Von Evans on the July 27 episode of RAW. But his absence from WWE apparently has nothing to do with backstage frustration or anger over his loss to Evans.
Rusev has reportedly been away from WWE television because of an injury
The former United States Champion was reportedly dealing with a physical issue that happened during the match. This offers a very different explanation for his sudden exit from WWE RAW.
According to Fightful Select, “Rusev’s WWE absence was injury-related, despite online speculation that he had ‘stormed off.’” His hands went numb after he landed awkwardly on his neck during the match.
The referee reportedly checked on Rusev and asked if the match needed to be stopped. However, Rusev wanted to continue. Reportedly, his condition apparently got worse as the match went on, making the situation more serious than it first seemed.
This also explains the strange scene that took place right after Evans got the victory.
Instead of staying in the ring, Rusev immediately rolled out and walked backstage. The moment led some fans to believe Rusev’s anger had started to boil over due to his frustration with WWE’s booking choices.
WWE is also believed to have placed Rusev in concussion protocol after the match. He was then given a couple of weeks away before returning to action. He is expected to return to WWE television sometime in September.
Before his absence, Rusev was regularly teaming with Ethan Page. He competed in a No. 1 contender’s gauntlet match for a shot at the Intercontinental Championship at SummerSlam. However, Chad Gable ultimately secured the victory.
Rusev and Page increasingly focused on Je’Von Evans and then-Intercontinental Champion Chad Gable before Rusev disappeared.
