Rebel Says The Greatest Thing ALS Gave Her Is Seeing How Much People Love Her
Rebel reflects on overwhelming support from family and friends during ALS battle.
Tanea Brooks, better known to wrestling fans as Rebel from All Elite Wrestling, has opened up about the incredible support she has received from her family, friends, and the wrestling community while battling ALS.
Brooks revealed her terminal diagnosis in May after enduring a two-year medical mystery. While she does not expect a cure for herself, she remains determined to raise awareness and help fund research in hopes of finding a solution for future ALS patients.
“I don’t expect the cure for me, but I expect to find it for everyone after me,” Brooks told WDRB during a Zoom interview from her Florida home.
Despite the challenges brought on by the disease, Brooks said one of the biggest blessings has been seeing how much love and support surrounds her during this difficult time.
“The greatest thing ALS has given me is to be able to see how much people care and love and support me before I am gone,” Brooks said.
Rebel Reveals Declining Health Amid ALS Battle
Brooks revealed that ALS has affected her ability to speak and move, explaining that her body is gradually becoming paralyzed while she remains able to feel everything.
“People need to be aware what a cruel disease this is,” Brooks said. “My speech and my whole body is becoming paralyzed, but I feel everything.”
The former AEW star also detailed her difficult journey to receiving a diagnosis. She was first hospitalized in May 2024 and was initially told she had pneumonia before later being diagnosed with cancer. After nearly two years of uncertainty, doctors eventually confirmed she had ALS.
Several of Brooks’ friends and former colleagues in AEW have shown their support throughout her battle. In June, former AEW World Tag Team Champions The Young Bucks hosted a special YouTube livestream that allowed fans to interact with them while raising money for ALS research in support of Rebel.
Additionally, multiple wrestling stars have participated in the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to support Brooks, including her former tag team partner Dr. Britt Baker and wrestling legend Sting.
As she continues her fight, Brooks has remained focused on using her platform to bring attention to ALS and the need for further research, while cherishing the support she has received from those closest to her.
