Bully Ray has shared his honest opinion on a recent WWE release.

WWE released a number of wrestlers following WrestleMania 42, with cuts affecting both main roster talent and NXT developmental performers.

Tamyra Mensah-Stock, also known as Tyra Mae Steele, was among the names released. The decision came as a surprise to many, as Steele had won WWE LFG Season 1 and was heavily featured on NXT prior to her release.

However, Bully Ray stated that he saw the release coming. Speaking on SiriusXM’s Busted Open, the WWE Hall of Famer praised Tamyra for her amateur wrestling background but suggested it did not fully translate into her professional wrestling career.

“Tyra Mae Steele is a credit to the United States of America, a credit to women’s amateur wrestling, a gold medalist — my god, what an incredible accomplishment!” he said on the show.

“Nothing but the highest of praise for Tyra Mae Steele and what she was able to do for our country, representing it well, and becoming a gold medalist … However, this is the world of professional wrestling, and I don’t think she quite was grasping it, or was moving forward the way she wanted to.”

Bully Ray says Tyra Mae Steele shouldn’t have won WWE LFG Season 1

Bully Ray went on to say that Steele should not have won WWE LFG Season 1, adding that other coaches also did not support the outcome. He suggested her victory came partly due to an injury suffered by Zena Sterling.

“I didn’t see it in her, the other coaches didn’t see it in her,” he said. “They gave [Steele] the contract and since the end of season one until this weekend, they did not see enough of Tyra Mae Steele or she did not impress enough to continue her career at WWE.”

The former tag team specialist also expressed reservations about WWE bringing athletes from other sports into the system only to release them later. He noted that the company should be more honest in explaining the possible repercussions of those releases.

“When they don’t make it in your world, you just cut and release them back into their real life, and now their real life might not be waiting for them anymore,” Bully Ray said. “I would love to see [WWE] maybe be a little bit more honest upfront about what can happen, if things can go wrong. They’re not letting them know the perils or the pitfalls that can happen once it’s all over.” [H/T WrestlingInc.com]
