Roman Reigns Points Out The Flaws In CM Punk’s Attacks On Him
WWE’s Roman Reigns says there’s a contradiction to everything CM Punk has said about him.
Ahead of his clash against CM Punk for the World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 42 Night 2, Roman Reigns appeared on ESPN First Take to promote the match and the event. During the conversation, he rejected the notion that he’s jealous of Punk’s connection with the fans.
“I don’t know if said I was jealous,” Roman Reigns said. “I notated that he had a great connection with the fans, which, yeah, I mean, that’s his superpower. He’s a journeyman, and he’s had such a long career, and they’ve been with him, the diehards. Nobody knows it better than Peter [Rosenberg].
“But it’s hard to explain because in this day and age, in the modern day, there has to be continuity of what we do. You can see in and outside of the ring. So it’s just one of those deals where it boggles my mind how people can support a human like CM Punk, you know what I mean?” Roman Reigns asked.
Roman Reigns says CM Punk didn’t back his comments with facts
WWE’s Peter Rosenberg then pointed out how CM Punk accused Roman Reigns of being a nepo baby. He noted that Reigns had to work his way through hostile crowd reactions and then carry the entire promotion throughout the pandemic era to reach where he is today. The OTC stated that, like this, there is a contradiction to everything Punk has said about him.
“I think if you look at every talking point CM Punk has hit, there’s a contradiction to everything,” Roman Reigns said. I’m not making it up. The internet exists. That’s what I’m saying. It’s not 2012 anymore. You know what I mean? The old CM Punk, that pipe bomb crap, it doesn’t line up because you have nerds all over the world picking it apart.
“They’re just on their computers like, ‘No way,’ and they’re cutting, copy, click, paste. You can’t lie in this day and age. You have to have continuity. What you see is what you get with me. I’m the only real superstar that WWE has. I’m the only guy around here that they pay me like I throw a football.
“I’m the only guy that could say that. And then you have these people that come up here and run these slander campaigns because they have an open mic and open platform. But at the end of the day, you can run your mouth all you want. In the real world, you gotta back it up, you gotta walk the walk,” Roman Reigns said.
Reigns says he’s responsible for WWE’s current success, not CM Punk
As Roman Reigns prepared for his 11th WrestleMania main event, he addressed what has changed in his preparations since his first WrestleMania and how he views the upcoming PLE.
“Everything. I got it figured out now,” Roman Reigns said. “There’s no stone that hasn’t been unturned. We cross the T’s, dot the I’s. I’ve done this so many times that I have a system in place that’s unbeatable. Punk, this is his second time doing this. He has no clue. He’s just getting his team together. He has no clue, and he’s confused about this whole idea of, like, we have a different culture. We’re walking around like superstars.
“Look where we are, pal. We’re in a stadium right now. We’re not in these little bingo halls like my dad and uncle were back in the day. The business has grown and it’s not due to CM Punk. I put this place on my back. I put us in a position to be here on ESPN. I put us in a position to be on Netflix. He wouldn’t even be here,” he said.
Roman Reigns says CM Punk will get his receipts for mentioning his late father
Peter Rosenberg then brought up CM Punk bringing up Roman Reigns’ late father, Sika, in a promo. Reigns said Punk is owed a receipt for the disrespect and that he’ll get it on Sunday. Punk had apologized to Reigns on this week’s RAW for the line.
“Well, that’s the beauty of this. That’s the business. The receipts are meant to come. We don’t just run our mouths. We get to figure this thing out. There’s a resolution that’s happening Sunday night. So that’s the beauty of this whole situation. Run your mouth, promote, do your media, that’s fine, but it’s all coming back. It’s all going to come full circle, and we’re going to bust your ass for it,” Roman Reigns said.
