Chavo Guerrero believes AAA is in great hands under The Undertaker’s leadership.

The Undertaker has remained busy in his post-wrestling career, as he’s become a WWE ambassador of sorts, as well as taking on a creative role with Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide in Mexico. Undertaker works behind the scenes, focusing on storytelling and in-ring psychology to blend the traditional Mexican wrestling with WWE-style elements.

Chavo Guerrero, who is the wrestling consultant on Apple TV’s Margo’s Got Money Troubles, spoke with WrestleZone about his role in AAA and working backstage with The Undertaker. Guerrero explained that lucha libre doesn’t have too much structure, but it’s their job to add some more modern rules and elements to create a more compelling product.

“I’m doing some behind-the-scenes stuff with AAA. That really helped when they first launched, because you’re taking a Mexican wrestling organization that’s used to doing things a certain way and then bringing in the WWE element. It becomes a win-win,” Guerrero said. “I’ve always loved the lucha libre style. Coming from that, it’s almost like my family helped shape it or steer it into what it is today, if you want to call it that.

“But sometimes, because lucha libre literally means ‘free fight,’ there isn’t a lot of structure. They just kind of go out there and do whatever, which sometimes works and sometimes doesn’t,” he added. “Once you bring in that structure with WWE, it just works. It’s a win-win. It’s such a beautiful style of wrestling, and when you add structure and rules to it, it just gets even better.”

The Undertaker is helping AAA get ‘better and better’

Chavo Guerrero praised The Undertaker’s mind for the wrestling business, noting how he’s been an asset to AAA. He pointed out the difficulties in booking the lucha libre style, but said that Undertaker has adapted well and will bring AAA to new heights.

“Yeah, Undertaker has a great mind for the business as well, and he’s been in it long enough that he should at this point,” Guerrero said. “Once you start booking that style, it can get tricky because it can go wrong really fast. It might not work, because with lucha libre wrestlers, a lot of them have been other places. But many haven’t been to WWE, and there’s definitely a different style in WWE.

“So to see him kind of cut his teeth and learn every week as he goes is interesting. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don’t, and that’s just booking in general,” Guerrero added. “But I think he’s doing a really good job, and I just see it getting better and better.”

Guerrero praised Sol Ruca, Chelsea Green and Carmelo Hayes as standout performers who are bridging the gap to the next generation of wrestlers who can wrestle and talk. Chavo prides himself on having an old-school mentality, where wrestlers need to be able to do both. He related it to his work on Margo’s Got Money Troubles, pointing out that while it’s a show that involves pro wrestling, it’s still a dramatic story at its heart.

“Then you go back to Margo’s Got Money Troubles. Now we’ve got wrestling on a big streaming platform,” he explained. “It’s on a major streaming network, and it’s really cool to have that again. We had shows like Glow, Young Rock, and Heels. Now we’re coming back into that space. And like you said, it’s not a wrestling show, but it has wrestling in it. It’s always a win-win for the wrestling fan.”

Margo’s Got Money Troubles is streaming now on Apple TV+, with new episodes releasing on Wednesdays.
