WWE has teased some names who could be behind Randy Orton’s mystery phone call from this week’s RAW.

Randy Orton shockingly turned heel on Cody Rhodes on last week’s episode of SmackDown after the two superstars signed the contract for their Undisputed WWE Championship match at WrestleMania 42. Following this, Orton appeared on the March 16 episode of RAW via satellite, where he was seen speaking to someone on the phone backstage, saying things like, “of course you were watching Friday,” and “it is time.”

Randy Orton then told Michael Cole that someone “who has a brain” made him realize that he’s “a killer.” He then finished, saying, “Wrestling has more than one royal family.” Amid all the speculation surrounding who Orton could’ve been speaking to on the phone, WWE tried to narrow down the options with an article posted on its official website. Written by contributor Mark Kaboly, the article has some common names as speculated by WrestleZone earlier this week.

WWE has some interesting names behind Randy Orton’s mystery phone call

The following are the names WWE speculated:

1. “Cowboy” Bob Orton:

WWE highlighted the Orton family’s legacy in pro wrestling, describing “Cowboy” Bob Orton as the most logical choice since Randy Orton mentioned that wrestling has more than one royal family. They also connected some dots over Orton, saying, “It was good seeing you a couple of weeks ago, too.

Orton appeared on an episode of the Pat McAfee Show in Indianapolis a couple of weeks ago, ahead of Elimination Chamber in Chicago. Since Bob Orton lives outside of St. Louis, which is only a short one-hour flight from both places, WWE believes the Viper could’ve been talking to his father.

2.  Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

Despite not appearing on WWE programming in over a year, the company believes The Rock fits the description of who Randy Orton could’ve been talking to. Being a part of another “Royal Family,” and based on the roles he played in Cody Rhodes’ last three WrestleMania matches, including turning John Cena heel, he could’ve also turned Orton heading into WrestleMania 42.

3. Current AEW star Ric Flair

Since Ric Flair took a young Randy Orton under his wings two decades ago during their time together in Evolution and led him to his first world championship, WWE believes that if the Viper would listen to anyone, it would be the Nature Boy.

They speculated that Flair could be “grumpy” over John Cena breaking his record by becoming a 17-time world champion last year. WWE also brought his daughter, Charlotte Flair, into the equation, saying, “And if you want to talk about more than one Royal Family? Who is more royal than Ric Flair and his 14-time World Champion daughter, Charlotte Flair, who could be the key cog in all of this?”

4. Kevin Owens

Instead of fixating on the words, “more than one royal family,” WWE asked if it’s “just a smokescreen to throw us all off the scent?” Kevin Owens had a fierce rivalry with Cody Rhodes before his unfortunate injury, and did almost the same thing Randy Orton did to him back in 2024.

Randy Orton came in to defend Rhodes during that storyline, but it featured some moments when the Viper almost snapped. Since Kevin Owens is unable to compete, WWE believes he could have spoken to the Viper, reminded him who he really was, and made him turn on his former protégé.

5. Randy Orton himself

In an intriguing scenario, Randy Orton could’ve been simply speaking to the “voices” in his head, under the guise of speaking to someone on the phone.

Apart from these names, the WWE article also mentioned some wildcards in Rikishi, Haku, Batista, John Cena, and Pat McAfee.
