Hikaru Shida Provides Important Update On Her AEW Status
When will we see former AEW Women’s World Champion Hikaru Shida return to the company?
Hikaru Shida has been absent from AEW programming since last November, when she lost a match on Dynamite to Kris Statlander. It was later revealed that Shida’s absence was due to a visa issue and not an injury. Shida has been overseas in Japan for the better part of the year, but is finally returning to the United States as her visa issues have been worked out.
The AEW star recently hosted a livestream on her YouTube channel. During the video, Shida revealed that not only has her visa been renewed, but her AEW contract has been as well.
“Actually, after the show, many fans asked me, like, are you retiring or it’s just play? Of course, it’s just play. I’m not retiring,” Hikaru Shida said. “I just renewed my visa and contract, so I’m not retiring. But fans asked me, so that means my acting was too good.” [H/T: Fightful]
With any luck, we should see Shida return to AEW as soon as next week when the company returns to Jacksonville for Dynamite and Collision.
Kenny Omega has been watching Hikaru Shida’s cats while in Japan
Back in May, on a Twitch stream, AEW EVP Kenny Omega first broke the news that Shida was still in Japan waiting for her visa to be renewed. Omega also revealed that he’s been taking care of her cats while she’s away.
“Shida, it’s unfortunate, every couple of years, everyone has to go back to their home country and re-up their visa,” Kenny Omega said. “I would’ve hated for her cats to have been alone for who knows how long because you never really know how long the process is going to take.
“In this case, it’s taking quite a while. Her cats get separation anxiety and don’t like being alone. Dobby [Kenny’s cat] is generally very gentle. They do get along. It’s nice and it’s fun. I would do it anytime. It’s not a chore.” [H/T: Fightful]
