Aleister Black Gets Candid About His Time In AEW

What did Aleister Black think about his time in AEW as Malakai Black?
WWE Superstar Aleister Black recently spoke with Denise Salcedo. When asked to look back on his time in AEW and what that run with the House of Black meant to him, Black gave a very well-thought-out response regarding his time with the company.
“We came in with the idea,” Aleister Black said. “When I did the House of Black thing, I came in with the idea of wanting to create a platform, not just for myself, but also for my friends. Making sure that they had a platform that’s also like, in the beginning, where you would see me kind of step more toward backwards, because people didn’t really know Brody [King] that well, and kind of let Brody take the reins and instrument things so the audience could get to know Brody.
“Same with Buddy [Matthews], same with Julia [Hart]. And Julia was someone who kind of took the reins into her own hands and started making promise and showing me I really want to be part of this. I’m like, alright, cool. Let’s just give it a shot. And Tony [Khan] was up for it.
“At the end of the day, I like a lot of the things that I did in AEW. Did I get to do everything that I wanted to do? No, but that’s just the way it goes. Like, that also happened the first time I was in WWE. It’s gonna happen again. You just roll with the punches. And sure, you can make an argument that we did a lot of six-man and not a lot of single stuff, but that’s okay. That’s just the way Tony wanted to book it.
“There was no grand agenda. There was no trying to protect me or others. It’s just Tony really liked the House of Black doing six-mans. And we were like, okay, cool. I remember walking into Tony’s office almost every week saying, Hey, what would you want out of this match? He’s like, Oh, so and so. I’m like, okay, man, yeah, no words. It was all done always in good faith and good communication.
“Sure, there were always going to be difficult moments, but that’s just this industry. I think that’s the part that people don’t realize. This is a very difficult industry to be in, and you’re dealing with egos, you’re dealing with feelings, you’re dealing with professionalism, you’re dealing with so many different characters that want so many different things. So for a lot of us, it’s just you roll with the punches, you come in and you do the best with what you’re given.”
After reflecting on some of his favorite AEW matches, Black ended things with a very positive mindset when it comes to his time with the company.
“So the thing is I did a lot of really cool stuff in AEW,” Aleister Black said. “I don’t look back at my AEW career as bad, not at all.”
