Jerry Lawler On 2012 WWE RAW Heart Issue, Michael Cole’s Reaction
During the September 10, 2012, edition of WWE RAW, Jerry Lawler suffered a heart issue, which would result in him missing programming for weeks.
On a recent edition of the “Busted Open Radio” podcast, Lawler recalled what he could from the terrifying ordeal at the show. He said,
“I don’t remember it because Michael Cole said he thought I was snoring, and he looked over and I was just falling out onto the announce table. I didn’t know anything. What happened was my heart stopped beating, and luckily the doctor was right there at ringside. They rushed me to the hospital and got my heart beating again.
“It wasn’t a heart attack — it was just that my heart stopped beating. And once they got it back on the right track, I was back well again right away.”
Lawler would spend weeks away recovering, though it was WWE who footed the $20,000 bill for his time recovering in the hospital.
Lawler would return on RAW to a huge ovation and would compare the well-wishes he’d received to the Christmas movie ‘It’s A Wonderful Life.’
The WWE Hall of Famer had been in action earlier in the show, in what would prove to be his final match for the promotion.
