Backstage Update On WWE Night Of Champions After U.S. Airstrike On Iran

A new report has provided an update on WWE’s travel plans for Night of Champions amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The pay-per-view event is scheduled for Saturday in Saudi Arabia, and recent geopolitical developments — specifically, a U.S. airstrike on Iranian nuclear facilities during Iran’s ongoing conflict with Israel — have led to speculation about the show’s status. Iran’s foreign minister has warned of “consequences” following the strikes.

According to a report from Fightful Select, WWE has not issued an official statement, but a high-ranking source within the company indicated that the situation is being closely monitored. As of now, talent is scheduled to depart mid-week on a charter flight to Riyadh in time for SmackDown on Friday and Night of Champions on Saturday. The inclusion of SmackDown means a larger travel operation than if only the PPV were taking place.

The report adds that preparations for both events in Saudi Arabia are moving forward. One source described the situation as “full steam ahead” as of Sunday afternoon. While emphasizing that this was just their opinion, the source expressed confidence that the event would proceed as planned, citing the substantial financial investment involved and WWE’s plans to bring the Royal Rumble to Saudi Arabia next year. They also described Saudi Arabia as “one of the safest places in the world” from a logistical standpoint. Another source said they expect WWE to receive strong security assurances.

WWE is currently in “full build mode” for the event, with fan experiences and surrounding activities expected to be announced later this week.
