Emily Bett Rickards Didn’t Audition For Queen of the Ring, Reveals How She Got The Role

Emily Bett Rickards has now become a popular name in the world of professional wrestling following her role in the hit film Queen of The Ring. The movie was about the life of wrestling veteran Mildred Burke. Rickards played the lead in the film, portraying Burke. Rickards has received a lot of positive feedback from wrestlers and critics for her role. Recently, Emily Bett Rickards revealed that she did not audition for the role.
While speaking on the Inside of You with Michael Rosenbaum podcast, Emily Bett Rickards revealed that she actually didn’t audition for her role. She said the director of the film, Ash Avildsen, saw her and felt that she would fit the character perfectly.
“I didn’t [Audition for the role in Queen of the Ring]. It’s kind of a wild story. Ash [Avildsen], our Director, didn’t really know my work. But saw me on kind of a roster and then looked at me and then sent me the role. I think there’s a little bit of a little bit Mildred magic happening in that because I didn’t know anything about wrestling. And it was really an opportunity to not only showcase who she was, but it really gave me the opportunity to dive in to the thing I love the most which is understanding humanity through acting. And I am just so honored to play her,” Emily Bett Rickards said.
Kamille shares what she hopes fans see after watching Queen of the Ring
Kamille is one of the featured wrestlers in Queen of the Ring, portraying Burke’s rival, June Byers. She was a breakout star in the NWA, where she was initially positioned as an enforcer-type persona who didn’t speak much. She eventually cut more promos, but moved on to a similar role when she joined AEW in 2024.
Kamille spoke with WrestleZone Managing Editor Bill Pritchard about her role in the film, noting that Queen of the Ring gives fans a great chance to see what she can do on the mic.
“For about a year, or really two years, NWA was behind a paywall, and that’s when I was champion and cutting really good promos. So, a lot of people didn’t get to see those,” Latimer explained. “But yeah, I’ve been cutting some good promos for a minute now, but a lot of people didn’t get to see those.”
“No, no, no. It is fair [to say] that a lot of people haven’t gotten a chance to see that. I’m with you. I’m excited for people to see that side, or never got a chance to see because it was behind that paywall. Now this movie is going national, [and I’m excited to show what I can do].”
Kamille “quit” working for Mercedes Moné in November 2024, but she has not been seen on AEW TV since then.
