Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson To Star In New Martin Scorsese Film
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is not only making headlines as The Final Boss in WWE but is also making major strides in Hollywood.
The Rock will now star in an exciting new drama directed by Martin Scorsese, alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Emily Blunt.
This film is based on the true story of a tough Hawaiian crime boss. It will portray organized crime in Hawaii and feature a character similar to Robert De Niro’s Jimmy the Gent from Goodfellas. This protagonist faces challenges and rivals as he tries to take control of the Hawaiian underworld.
Nick Bilton writes the screenplay, and Scorsese, The Rock, Blunt, DiCaprio, Bilton, Dany Garcia, Lisa Frechette, and Rick Yorn are all producing the film.
This project is especially important to The Rock because he has strong personal connections to Hawaii and has always wanted to make a movie set in his homeland.
The Rock will also reunite with Blunt in A24’s Smashing Machine. This film, directed by Benny Safdie, will be released later this year.
The Rock confirmed the Martin Scorsese project on social media, writing, “Grateful for what’s been the most creatively inspiring time of my career – working closely with my friends and of course, the maestro Marty Scorsese. In the 60’s, 70’s & 80’s the mafia-controlled New York, Miami, Chicago, Vegas, and a particularly strong hold on the island I was raised – Hawaii.”
