How Did WWE Keep Alexa Bliss’ Royal Rumble Return A Surprise?

Alexa Bliss shocked the WWE Universe with her surprise return in the women’s Royal Rumble match, but how did her comeback come about?

Bliss entered the match at the #21 spot, two years after her most recent match which had taken place in January 2023.

On today’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer shared that Bliss has signed a new contract with WWE, but cast doubt on some claims by WWE sources. He said,

“I am told that the Alexa Bliss thing was a late negotiation. I don’t believe that because it’s pro wrestling. My belief is that they were pulling a swerve.”

Shortly before Bliss’ return, it was reported that she and WWE were so far apart, that some believed that a new deal would not be reached.

Meltzer adds that people in the offices, including “high-up” names had been fooled by the story that the pair were not close to a new deal.

The women’s Royal Rumble match was won by Charlotte Flair, making the Queen the first-ever two-time winner of the women’s Royal Rumble.
