Buddy Matthews Teases AEW Return

Buddy Matthews is teasing an AEW return amid a lengthy absence.
Former AEW World Trios Champion Buddy Matthews has been out of action since February 2025. He last competed in a match against Kazuchika Okada at Grand Slam Australia and later revealed that he suffered an ankle injury during his entrance. He then underwent surgery and has been in recovery since.
He recently teased an in-ring return by posting this message on social media: “The Devil signed the clearance. Hell stamped its approval. No more barriers. Only timing.”
Fans interpreted his post as Matthews being cleared for in-ring action and that he’s waiting for the right time to make his presence felt in AEW again.
Buddy Matthews says ‘Redemption’ is waiting…
Buddy Matthews has now once again teased his return, as he took to X/Twitter to share this message: “They left me in the darkness, convinced I’d never find my way. Redemption was waiting where they stopped looking.”
Matthews’ latest tease has the fans talking, and some speculate he could return at the ongoing Redemption pay-per-view. Some also speculate a House of Black reunion, as Aleister Black (FKA Malakai Black in AEW) became a free agent this past Thursday after his release from WWE on April 24.
Another House of Black member, Brody King, is currently a part of Brodido with Bandido in AEW. The latter will be in action later tonight at Redemption, challenging Kyle Fletcher for the International Championship. Though everybody is banned from ringside, it will be interesting to see if Buddy Matthews will make his long-awaited return during the contest.
