Backstage Details On Chris Jericho’s AEW Return and Contract
Chris Jericho is back in AEW, and a new report shares some details about how it went down.
Jericho finally returned to wrestling on Wednesday night when he appeared on AEW Dynamite in Winnipeg. This marked Jericho’s first live appearance on AEW programming in almost a year. Jericho had not been seen on TV since the April 8, 2025, episode of AEW Dynamite.
According to a new report from Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, the “general belief” backstage is that Jericho and AEW came to terms on a new contract. It was noted that Jericho did not show up backstage until Dynamite was ready to go on air. He was also “driven right into the venue about two minutes before AEW began broadcasting and went right to the gorilla position for his ring entrance.”
The report also notes that Chris Jericho filmed additional content after heading backstage. He also took part in a photo shoot before introducing himself to newer wrestlers he didn’t know.
Chris Jericho’s return to AEW (or WWE) was a topic of speculation for months
Chris Jericho recently applied to trademark “Cornerstone,” which led to speculation about his status in wrestling. On Wednesday, Fightful (via Fightful Select) reported that AEW sources believe Jericho would be back as soon as that night’s show, which ultimately happened.
Jericho did have talks with WWE about a return. However, it was denied that WWE ever had creative plans for him. Fightful also said Jericho was never planned for the WWE Raw on Netflix anniversary, the Royal Rumble, or the Elimination Chamber. Any talk about him showing up on those events was speculation. According to a follow-up comment from F4WOnline.com’s Dave Meltzer, WWE sources said fans should not expect Jericho in WWE “any time soon, if ever.”
Jericho’s next AEW appearance has not been announced. He will be in New York on Thursday and Friday for concerts with his KISS cover band, Kuarantine. The band will be in Cohoes, New York, on Thursday, followed by a stop in Rome, New York, on Friday.
