David Arquette Makes Surprise In-Ring Return
David Arquette made a surprise in-ring return at an independent wrestling event this past Saturday.
Actor David Arquette is known in pro wrestling circles for infamously winning the WCW World Heavyweight Championship back in 2000. He made a surprise in-ring return at Awesome Championship Wrestling’s Poughkeepsie Rumble event on January 3. This is his first in-ring appearance since he announced his retirement back in 2021.
David Arquette entered the 21-man Poughkeepsie Rumble match as the 19th entrant. He eliminated two wrestlers who were dangling over the top rope before taking a low blow from wrestler Richard Holliday, who went on to win the match alongside Dante Casanova. Holliday and Casanova then competed for the vacant ACW Heavyweight Championship in the main event, with the former emerging victorious.
After his stint in WCW, Arquette wrestled on the indies for a four-year stretch between 2018 and 2021. His return to the ring was later chronicled in a wrestling-themed documentary called You Cannot Kill David Arquette.
David Arquette Was Not The Only One To Return After A Lengthy In-Ring Hiatus
Apart from David Arquette, who returned to action after nearly five years, ACW Poughkeepsie Rumble also featured the in-ring return of former FITE TV host Josh Shernoff, who had his first proper match in over 17 years.
He teamed up with Danny Maff and Shawn Donavan to defeat the team of Hale Collins, Vik Dalishus, and ECW legend Tommy Dreamer. Shernoff pinned Dreamer, and the latter’s Busted Open Radio colleague, Dave LaGreca, who was the special enforcer, had to make the three-count.
Josh Shernoff had also recently posted a video on Facebook claiming Tommy Dreamer once attacked him at an ECW event back in 1999, using Lance Storm as a weapon. However, the clip showed Dreamer sending Storm back first onto the barricade, with the latter barely making contact with Shernoff.
Apart from these, the show also featured several notable stars, including Mike Santana, Nic Nemeth, Real1( Enzo Amore), Indi Hartwell, and Shotzi Blackheart.
