Darby Allin is happy where he’s at.

Earlier this year, Darby Allin conquered the lofty task of climbing Mount Everest, with the planting of an AEW flag as proof. Beyond the excitement, Allin says the experience made him better appreciate the authentic nature of being off camera as well as the peace associated with it. When asked if he is felt at peace with himself beforehand his mountainous journey, Allin admitted to having a mixture of emotions.

“Yes and no,” he told The Ariel Helwani Show. “I just see every hurdle or thing where people are like, ‘Dude, you should be you should be so stoked about this moment.’ You realize, well, I’m not. Then to put so much energy into a superficial thing, it’s like you shouldn’t be so focused on how much followers you have on Instagram. You shouldn’t be so focused on how much likes you have on anything. You should just be focused on the people in your personal life and making everybody around you happy. That, to me, was the true essence.”

Allin Didn’t Feel Fulfilled As A Champion

“I wasn’t getting anything out of being a champion in wrestling,” he continued. “Say if I won a championship, I didn’t feel a single thing from it. Performing in front of 81,000 people at Wembley, the next day, I didn’t feel a single thing. Then I was just like, ‘No, I need to do something about this so I don’t just be like, oh, yeah, I’m so happy, everybody.’ Everyone’s like, ‘You should be stoked.’ I’m grateful for it, but it wasn’t making me happy. So that’s the thing. I was like I just need to focus on my own life.”

Rather than spending 20 years trying to appease others and later regretting it, Allin prefers to make the most of his life, as evidenced by his pursuit of Everest. “I’m so grateful that I’m at the mental spot I’m in right now this early in my career,” he added.

Since returning to the wrestling ring, Allin has largely been entangled in a feud with the Death Riders, including former AEW World Champion Jon Moxley. This weekend, he and Moxley will collide in an “I Quit” match at AEW WrestleDream.
