Ric Flair comments on Hulk Hogan‘s untimely passing.

News broke on Thursday morning that pro wrestling legend Hulk Hogan passed away. Hogan was 71 years old at the time of his death and passed away after a medical incident at his Clearwater, Florida home.

Many tributes have poured in since the news of Hogan’s death became public, including one from Ric Flair, who was known as one of Hogan’s greatest rivals. Flair wrote the following on Twitter/X, sharing how much his relationship with Hogan meant to him:

“I Am Absolutely Shocked To Hear About The Passing Of My Close Friend @HulkHogan! Hulk Has Been By My Side Since We Started In The Wrestling Business,” Flair wrote on Twitter/X. “An Incredible Athlete, Talent, Friend, And Father! Our Friendship Has Meant The World To Me. He Was Always There For Me Even When I Didn’t Ask For Him To Be. He Was One Of The First To Visit Me When I Was In The Hospital With A 2% Chance Of Living, And He Prayed By My Bedside. Hulk Also Lent Me Money When Reid Was Sick. Hulkster, No One Will Ever Compare To You! Rest In Peace My Friend! ??”

Ric Flair says he was closer to Hulk Hogan than you might think

Flair also did a live interview on TMZ on Thursday morning and shared how much Hogan meant to him. Flair said that while he and Hogan feuded on television, they were actually good friends.

“More than you will ever know,” Flair said. “People wanted to paint us as enemies, but we were actually very, very close friends. And we kept up with each other on a regular basis. I just talked to Jimmy Hart yesterday and [Hogan] was fine. To have this happen is horrible.”

Flair said he’s heard from everyone, and his phone hasn’t stopped ringing, but that’s a good thing because everyone he spoke with had nice things to say about Hogan. He pointed out that social media could be cruel, but all of the conversations he’s had since the news broke have been nice.

“We had magic. It wasn’t like me and Steamboat, but we had a chemistry that I felt like it equaled me and Steamboat, but in a different way. He was so over. When I went to [WWF] in the nineties, I had never seen anything like it in my life,” Flair said. “It was just an unbelievable relationship.”
