Report: ‘Many’ In WWE Want Alberto Del Rio Back
Alberto Del Rio allegedly still has a few fans left in WWE.
Del Rio left WWE in 2016, ending his second run in the company. He has been embroiled in controversy since then, including being charged with kidnapping and sexual assault. Despite his repeated calls for a return to the company, WWE has not brought him back.
Del Rio, aka Alberto El Patron, was the AAA Mega Champion when WWE acquired AAA earlier this year. It was reported that Del Rio signed a new contract with WWE, although it was speculated that this was just a formality with the AAA merger and no one expected him back on WWE TV.
Del Rio recently lost the Mega Championship. The match also stipulated that he must leave the company if he lost. It appeared to be more than just a storyline, as it was recently reported that Alberto leaving AAA is legitimate.
Now, a new report suggests that Del Rio still has some friends left in WWE. Superluchas‘ Ernesto Ocampo reported that “there are many in WWE” who want him back on the main roster.
“What I know is that there are no plans for him to go to the U.S. but that could change. But I do hope that he eventually returns to AAA Programming. There are many in WWE [who] want him to return to the main roster,” Ocampo said.
Past remarks indicate Alberto Del Rio will not likely be welcomed back to WWE
It’s unclear who the “many” are, but it doesn’t seem likely to happen. Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp (via Fightful Select) recently reported that WWE sources said there are no plans for Del Rio in the company. Furthermore, Del Rio has constantly talked about returning to WWE, but it seemed to be only one person adding fuel to those rumors.
In the past, Fightful reported on multiple occasions that when Del Rio mentioned one more run in WWE that there was “no fucking way that happens.” More recently, a WWE higher-up said there was “no fucking chance” Del Rio would ever be welcomed back.
