French Wrestling Promotion Hosts Event With Ring Floating On Water

A French pro wrestling promotion gained some attention for the unique way it hosted its latest live event.

Catch As Catch Can hosted its Sur L’Éau event on Sunday, July 27. The event was unique for its location, as the competitors battled on a floating ring on Canal de Saint-Quentin in Proville, Nord, France. The entire event, including a battle royal, took place inside the floating ring.

One of the wrestlers involved in the event, MBM, shared footage of the CACC show, captioning the post with “PLOUF MANIA.” (Plouf is the French for “splash.”)

The idea of having a wrestling event on a floating ring is certainly unique, but it’s not the first time it’s happened. Although these rings seemed a bit more stable than the French one.

Gorgeous George once wrestled Masked Marvel on a floating ring at Seattle’s Aqua Theater on Green Lake in 1952. More recently, Japan’s FMW (Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling) hosted a 13-man battle royal where the losers swam back to land. Additionally, FMW also hosted an “electric pool match” in 1994.

Newer fans might also remember WCW’s Spring Break-themed episodes of WCW Nitro at Club La Vela in Panama City, Florida. One of the most memorable moments from the WCW shows featured Kevin Nash hopping the guardrail and doing a jackknife into the pool. We’re probably not any closer to getting pro wrestling back at Club La Vela, as the famed venue has remained closed for several years. However, it’s still fun to see pro wrestling events hosted in unique venues such as this.
