Bret Hart Reacts To How His Parents Were Portrayed On WWE TV
One of the biggest rivalries in WWE history was between Bret Hart and Jerry Lawler. During their rivalry, Lawler began to insult Hart’s parents, Stu and Helen, who were featured on WWE TV.
During a recent interview with the Rise Guys, Bret Hart opened up about what his parents and Owen Hart thought about Jerry Lawler’s comments.
“Yeah, it was a funny thing. I tell you a funny story that Lawler was talking about my mom and my dad. And Stu putting his teeth in backwards or… I can’t remember what it was. He was having a lot of fun saying stuff about my dad. It was my brother Owen [Hart] who came up to me and said, ‘He’s going too strong and I don’t like it.’ And he went too strong… And he was upset about it. I was like, ‘I’ll wait till I get home. We’ll talk to my mom and dad and see how they are with all this stuff.’ And we came up to the house.
“Owen and I both met at my dad’s house. I think Owen might have been a heel then. We weren’t necessarily friends yet, [so] we had to be careful when we went up to the Hart house. We always kayfabed, even at home. There was a lot of the biggest marks in the world in my house. At my dad’s house.”
How did Bret Hart’s parents react to Jerry Lawler’s comments?
The Hitman shared that both his parents were laughing out loud about Lawler’s comments. But on the other hand, Lawler’s comments about Bret Hart’s father’s real-life heart attack got Owen Hart seething.
“But anyway, so, we would sneak in and then go meet upstairs and talk to my mom and we went into my mom and dad’s office. And they were in tears laughing about Jerry Lawler. They were so, my mom was like, ‘Oh, that Jerry Lawler.’ And she was like, they were having so much fun with it. I remember I looked at Owen and I kind of shrugged my shoulders and he looked at me and like, he was stunned. Because Owen was really worked up about it. And it was like, I’m so glad I didn’t say anything because we could tell from just the way she reacted that they were actually having more fun with it than anyone,” Bret Hart said.
