The Miz Reflects On WrestleMania 27 Main Event, HBK Talks Superkick vs. Sweet Chin Music

At WrestleMania 27, The Miz defended his WWE Championship against John Cena.

During the match, Cena tackled The Miz over a barricade, leading to a reported concussion for The Miz. Referee Mike Chioda, along with Cena and The Rock, guided him through the remainder of the match.

During a recent interview with ESPN, The Miz stated that it would have been his biggest regret if the match had been stopped due to his injury. He said,

“I’m very thankful that I was in that match with John Cena as well as Mike Chioda — the referee — as well as The Rock. They took care of me. I don’t know what would have happened if I go down and they just stop the entire match. That would have been the biggest regret of my life. I was safe and I was able to finish what needed to be done for this main event of WrestleMania. I’m forever thankful.”

The match was restarted after a double count-out, and The Rock helped The Miz retain the title by delivering a Rockbottom to Cena.

During a recent appearance on the “Bobby Bones Show,” WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels explained the differences between the superkick and his Sweet Chin Music finisher.

Michaels said, “We go through phases and peaks and valleys with that to where you’re looking to give your fans the most for their entertainment dollar. Nine times out of ten, that’s excitement and movement. Certainly, from an NXT standpoint, we don’t have the equity in our superstars that a main roster has. Viewers might not watch a NXT upstart who has been doing this for six months as long as they’ve watched Kevin Owens. That young superstar will probably have to move faster, do more exciting things to keep that viewer invested. At the same time, you want to teach them and keep the integrity of the business. You might begin to give them a little leeway. Usually, what happens is we do that, and after a while, it goes too far and we have to reel and rein everybody back in. That’s something you have to keep your finger on the pulse of. That’s something that I think is going on now. Everybody, especially my finisher, the super kick, I’m now understanding that a super kick is one thing, but Sweet Chin Music, that’s a finisher. When you get into those types of things, you want to keep the integrity of the move, we obviously want that to be noteworthy. You have to call those as you see them and hopefully the fanbase appreciates and understands that.”
