Backstage News On The WWE NXT Releases, More On The Way?

WWE released 12 NXT Superstars last night and more are likely coming soon. Some of the names released include Bronson Reed, Mercedes Martinez, Jake Atlas, and Bobby Fish.

According to a report from Fightful, WWE releases will be a regular occurrence moving forward. Back in 2018, WWE put a “talent stashing” plan in motion where there would be “honest intentions” by all involved. Some of the pitches for the “talent stashing” involved signing various wrestling talent and developing WWE Performance Centers internationally. These talents would then be assigned to their native and international Performance Centers. Some of the talents would have been bounced around the overseas territories.

As many of you know, those plans were halted after about a year. The company then opted to have all of the talent stay “parked” in two places (NXT and NXT UK). Once WWE NXT launched on the USA Network, the COVID-19 pandemic came into play and everything came to a halt.

There is said to be “extreme frustration” over this. One higher-up WWE official noted that from a corporate WWE standpoint, it makes sense though. The line of thinking that WWE privately puts out regarding the releases is “it’s business.”

As noted earlier here on eWn, Vince McMahon would obviously have the power to stop any of the releases. In recent months, the calls on who gets released have been a “collaborative effort.” Several sources expect the WWE releases to continue on a regular basis. The amount of “mass releases” we’ve recently seen hadn’t been an issue from 2016 until 2020.
