The Reason Behind WWE’s Staff Cuts, Speculation On WWE Being Sold

As everyone is well aware by now, WWE has made some serious staff cuts from behind-the-scenes that coincide with the cuts going on inside the ring with many WWE Superstars being released from the organization beginning last year during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic (March 2020) to the present day. Wrestling Observer Radio has new details as to why these cuts are taking place here as of late.

Dave Meltzer says the changes were made in order to the cut the head count down and increase profitability (less is more mentality). More WWE employees will have to work harder and have more responsibility in the future. WWE is also looking at relocating from the headquarters based in Stamford, Connecticut to a new building within’ the same region. WWE looked at the big picture and overall felt they had way too many people on the payroll that needed to be released, unfortunately.

Meltzer added that with the company making money, they don’t feel the pressure to do as many new things. This is the main reason why most of these cuts came from the digital side (WWE Studios) and other departments within’ that same division, mainly the digital department.

WWE still has analytical people on their payroll, but it’s not as big of a priority. WWE President Nick Khan is also going to want to put his own people in spots, which is something that has been occurring as of late even before the mass cuts.

Lastly, Meltzer is speculating that if WWE was looking to sell the company, this is the kind of thing that would be good to do before that would happen. Keep in mind, this is just pure speculation (as we’ve seen these kind of rumors pop up so many times over the years). As of this writing, there is no real truth or facts to back up that WWE may be sold to a new regime anytime soon.
