Rey Fenix opens up about the possibility of a Lucha Bros in-ring reunion in WWE.

During a recent appearance on Ringside Fest 2025 (via Ringside Collectibles), SmackDown star Rey Fenix was asked if he still has aspirations to team with his brother Penta and how soon he sees that happening.

“I don’t know how it’s going to happen, but of course — our careers are connected. We’ve been wrestling together for almost 19 years, and for about 10 of those years we’ve been a tag team. I miss my brother, and I know he misses me,” Rey Fenix said.

“It’s been great for both of us to grow as singles wrestlers. He’s my favorite wrestler now. I love who Penta is today, what he’s become, and how he’s walking his own path. I grew up with him in this business. We shared so many moments. We traveled to the same countries, had the same debuts, worked for the same companies.”

Rey Fenix says the Lucha Bros are the best tag team in the universe

“And of course, I know we have to do it in WWE too. I think the people want it. In my opinion, my brother and I are the best tag team in the universe. We’re very different, and that’s why we’re the best. We don’t compete with each other — we know our roles, we know what we need to do to be a great team. He’s my older brother. I love him so much, and I’ve learned so much from him.

“If I get the chance to team with him in WWE, that would be a dream come true. Years ago, we made a promise, and that promise is going to happen at some point. I think Penta and Rey Fénix — The Lucha Brothers — are coming. I don’t know when, I don’t know how, but I feel it in my heart.

“And when that moment happens, the tag team division is going to the stars, because we know how to make tag team wrestling work. People know who the best tag team in the universe is — The Lucha Brothers. And I know the whole world is waiting for it.”

Penta injured on WWE RAW

Lucha Bros versus Dominik Mysterio and El Grande Americano was reportedly the planned direction for the December 20 AAA Lucha Libre event. The challenge was issued after Rey Fenix and Penta called out Dominik and Americano in a vignette this past Saturday in Mexico City.

However, the chances of the match happening now appear slim following Penta’s injury on WWE RAW this week. The Mexican star was injured while performing a hurricanrana on Solo Sikoa during their Last Time Is Now Tournament quarterfinal match on the red brand. The bout was subsequently cut short, giving Solo the win.

Penta addressed his injury afterward. Taking to social media, he thanked fans for their support and praised Solo Sikoa for his professionalism in the ring despite being visibly shaken by the incident. Fans will have to wait and see if the injury affects WWE’s reported plans for a Lucha Bros in-ring reunion.
