Scott D’Amore assesses the upcoming WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Jey Uso and CM Punk.

Due to a shoulder injury, Seth Rollins relinquished the WWE World Heavyweight Championship this week, leaving CM Punk and Jey Uso to fight for the now vacant title at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on November 1. Punk solidified himself as the number one contender last week; Uso secured his title shot by surviving a battle royal on WWE Raw on Monday.

In the latest edition of The D’Amore Drop on Uncrowned , former TNA President Scott D’Amore weighed in on the upcoming title match between Punk and Uso. According to him, the wiser decision would see WWE reinvest in Jey Uso with another World Heavyweight Championship win, then a heel turn.

“There’s only so long anyone can keep doing the smiling babyface thing,” D’Amore wrote. “If WWE creative believes Jey still has equity as a main-event talent, pulling the trigger on the long-teased heel turn might be the best thing for him.

“Uso showing zero hesitation in eliminating twin brother Jimmy during Monday’s No. 1 Contender Battle Royal was good booking. It showed he’s serious about getting his belt back and doesn’t care who he has to go through. That’s a believable and understandable motivation for a turn to the dark side … Perfect booking: Plant a huge seed for a turn, then move the crowd on emotionally so the payoff can happen later.”

While Punk may seem like the more obvious winner choice in the eyes of the fans, D’Amore argues that it would simply be a mirror of his recent title win over Gunther at WWE SummerSlam, which was eclipsed by the Money in the Bank cash-in by Seth Rollins shortly after.

“… Putting the title back on CM Punk at Saturday Night’s Main Event isn’t what I’d do,” D’Amore wrote. “It would be a pale imitation of his emotional win over Gunther at SummerSlam. Even though WWE is scrambling to fill the Seth Rollins-sized hole, I think Punk should spend more time chasing the belt. There’s a bigger, more meaningful moment down the road.”
